With yet another installment in the John Wick franchise, stakes are expectedly to be higher both in the movie for Mr. Wick and at the box office for ticket sales.

Without spoiling more than necessary, here’s our review of John Wick: Chapter 4.

New Faces

As with many movie franchises, one of the best things they can do to ensure it still feels fresh after several installments is to add new faces.

Donnie Yen and Scott Adkins are able to do this well. As one of the biggest stars in Asia and one of the best at the martial arts acting game, Donnie Yen stars as an exciting character, Caine. Although he’s been able to star in a similar role as the blind Chirrut in Star Wars Rogue One, he wanted to make this character different.

Speaking of different, Scott Adkins is barely recognizable in this movie, and it actually ended up being a good idea. Scott Adkins portrays Killa Harkan, the head of the German Table, who plays an important role in the movie.

The Story

Although we can’t spoil much about it, we do see many things in the trailer that tell us where this movie is headed. One thing that we can guarantee, though, is that it definitely does the series justice.

The movie follows John Wick as he fights with the entirety of the High Table global, with him taking on New York, Paris, Japan, and even Berlin. Chapter 4 of John Wick ensures everything is fresh and that the movies aren’t milked to the bone like many franchises.

The Action

As many would say, it isn’t a John Wick film if the action isn’t done perfectly. Thanks to Keanu’s underrated martial arts skills and the producers’ dedication to choreography, they’ve been able to pull off the same—if not better—quality of action through fights, stunts, and overall choreography.

Keanu is amazing, Donnie Yen is Donnie, and everyone else played their part well.

The Acting

What separates great action movies from good action movies is the story and the acting. Luckily for us, John Wick: Chapter 4 is able to do just that.

Stellar acting performances come from both recurring casts and new faces. Laurence Fishburne is solid as Bowery King, Ian McShane as Winston does a great job, and Lance Reddick—may he rest in peace—is a constant as Charon. They’re truly able to pull off being truly believable characters in the world of baba yaga.
