As one of the best to have ever played the game and to have been playing at an elite level since he was 18, LeBron James has had plenty of shocking events in his career.

In this video, we’ll list five shocking moments in LeBron James’ career.

1. The Decision

It’s no surprise that The Decision is the first on this list. LeBron James’ decision to leave Cleveland for the Miami Heat to team up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh is one of the most shocking events in professional sports,

He ended up being hated by many, but the moment was also credited with having begun the player empowerment era, which is still debated to this day whether it’s good or not.

2. J.R. Smith’s Blunder

It may not have been something LeBron personally did, but it was definitely one of the most shocking moments in LeBron’s career and in recent NBA finals history.

Despite the stellar performance from LeBron, scoring a career-high 51 points in game 1 of the 2018 NBA finals, J.R. is remembered the most. After George Hill missed a game-winning free throw, Smith secured a rebound, and instead of passing or trying to score, he dribbled it out and cost them the game heading into overtime.

3. 8-Point Finals Game

June 7, 2011. Many may not remember the exact date, but every single fan of Basketball remembers one of the most heartbreaking performances of LeBron James on Game 4 of the 2011 NBA finals against the eventual champions, the Nowitzki-led Dallas Mavericks.

Being defended by players such as Jason Kidd and Jason Terry and making a total of only 3 out of 11 attempts, was definitely a shocker.

4. The All-time Scoring Record

Although most NBA fans saw it coming as LeBron entered his 20th season, it would’ve shocked everyone ten years ago if you told them that someone would break the record.

What was once seen to be an unbreakable record from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was broken by LeBron James on February 7, 2023, in a game against the OKC Thunder.

5. The Block

Everyone knew LeBron would show out and give it his all during Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals, but not even Andre Iguodala could see the legendary block coming.

Tied at 89 with less than 2 minutes to go, LeBron ran an estimated 20.1 miles per hour and jumped 35 inches to block Andre Iguodala, turning the tides against the defending champions and eventually winning Cleveland their first National Sports Championship in 52 years.
