Although the MCU is generally a fun and entertaining universe, there’s no denying it has had its fair share of grim and dark moments.

In this video, we’ll be taking a look at 5 of the darkest moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

5. Loki’s Death – Avengers: Infinity War

Loki had several “deaths” before this, but Avengers: Infinity War had this sense of finality about it that finally convinced us. Some people were hopeful, but most thought this was really it for the god of mischief.

To make things even worse, this was the opening scene of Infinity War, and Thor could do nothing, only watching helplessly from afar.

4. Cap Knew Who Killed Tony’s Parents – Captain America: Civil War

Aside from the action-packed movie and the long list of superhero characters who made their appearance in the Civil War, one of its most important scenes is the one that reveals Cap actually knew it was Bucky, the Winter Soldier who killed his parents.

Tony confronts Steve, asking if he knew that Bucky killed his parents. At first, Steve denies it, but he eventually says yes. Admitting he knew what Bucky did, further adding to the tension and the stakes.

3. Ego Killing Quill’s Mom – Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

For a franchise that’s known for being a fun, upbeat take on superhero movies, nobody could prepare themselves for this.

Ego revealing in the most unemotional and apathetic way that he was the one who implanted the tumor in the head of Quill’s mom is definitely a dark moment.

2. John Walker’s Cold-Blooded Murder – The Falcon and The Winter Soldier

At the time that this episode came out, John Walker’s cold-blooded murder of a flag smasher had immediately made him an extremely hated character.

Fueled by a dose of super-soldier serum, he invades the headquarters of the Flag Smasher and, in a fit of rage, taints Captain America’s shield with cold blood.

1. Thanos Makes Half Of the Entire Universe Disappear – Avengers: Infinity War

It’s undeniable that the snap is the darkest MCU moment of all time. When Infinity War came out in the theaters, the MCU was arguably at the top of the cinema game and at its peak.

Everyone was already expecting that Thanos, having been established as a real threat, would be able to kill off a couple of heroes here and there, but nobody could prepare themselves for one of the most memorable scenes in all of cinema.
