2023 Game Highlights: New York Jets vs. Cleveland Browns

With a result of 21-16 in favor of the Browns, the Hall of Fame Game at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium was a fun night for fans in Canton, Ohio.

Taking place between the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns, here are the highlights of the kickstarting game for the 2023 NFL preseason.

Offensive Highlights

Zach Wilson 2 went 3-for-5 for 65 yards for the New York Jets and put together quite a solid display for his first game of the 2023 season. However, he didn’t get a lot of playing time after only playing one quarter. We’ll have to wait and see for more of his improvements in the passing game, as he only threw five passes. However, since it’s only a preseason game, we’re sure we’ll see more of that come the season’s official start.

For the Cleveland Browns, it was Cedric Tillman 89 , the Wide Receiver picked in the 3rd by the Browns in the 2023 NFL draft, who proved why he deserved to be picked with his two receptions and first downs in the half. He finished with 8-for-11 and a touchdown.

Defensive Highlights

On the defensive side of the game, it was the cornerbacks showing out, more specifically, Brandin Echols 26 with three-run stops for the Jets. Tony Fields II 42 browns and Dawand Jones 74 browns also showed glimpses of productivity, making fans hopeful for the season.

Stand Out Players:

One of the players that stood out was the 5th-round pick of the Cleveland Browns, #17, Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Robinson, a 6’2 quarterback from the UCLA Bruins, was selected 142nd in the 2023 NFL Draft. He stood out, leading the Cleveland comeback after they were behind at the start of the second half.

Speaking of rookies, Dawand Jones also put together quite the performance for his first game on the big stage. Luke Wypler 56, Cedric Tillman, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and Dawand Jones are all prospects that fans hope to see more of.

The Lowlights

One of the most glaring problems that presented itself during the game was the kicker for the Cleveland Browns. Cade York 3, although still 22, has not provided fans a reason to be confident about the kicker position for the Browns.

Nevertheless, we can’t come to any conclusion whatsoever because it’s only the preseason, and the actual start of the season is an entirely different game. Players are still getting their legs behind them and setting their brains to game time and there’s not much to worry about.
