Whether with your family, friends or yourself, doing something fun other than staying home during New Year’s Eve is a great way to enjoy the holidays.

For this video, we’ll list five ways you can spend New Year’s Eve in New York City this year.

1. Fireworks Displays

We’re starting off this list with a classic. Watching fireworks has always been one of the best ways to spend New Year’s Eve. In New York, this is even better.

For the city that never sleeps, five spots you can choose from have great fireworks displays every year for New Year’s Eve. Times Square is the most popular, but Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, Grand Army Plaza, and on a Cruise Boat are also great options.

2. Go on a Cruise

Speaking of cruise boats, several cruise trips are available for New Year’s Eve. Some are high-end, and some are relatively affordable.

If you’re going with a partner, you can opt for the pricier ones. There are affordable options if you’re going with the entire family. Just make sure that you book and buy tickets beforehand because they sell out quickly.

3. Road Runners’ Midnight Run

One fun and unique way to spend New Year’s Eve is the New York Road Runners’ Midnight Run. The event is a 4-mile fun run that the New York Road Runners Organization sponsors.

The starting point is at Bethesda Terrace, beginning exactly at midnight. The run is fun because you’re running around NYC while a 15-minute fireworks display hovers over your head.

4. Times Square Ball Drop

The ball drop at Times Square is one of the most well-known and popular ways that locals and tourists celebrate New Year’s Eve. The ball drop tradition actually dates back even before New Year’s Eve was celebrated in Times Square.

For an idea of what to expect, the ball that drops is a 12-feet ball filled with more than two thousand waterford crystal triangles in all sorts of sizes, illuminated by more than thirty thousand LED lights.

5. Observation Decks

Last but not the least, there are endless choices for observation decks in New York City.

The Summit One Vanderbilt is one of the most unique observation decks in the city, but it’s also quite pricey. For $250, you’ll be able to enjoy all three floors of the observation deck until 2:00 a.m. alongside a live DJ, a countodwn light show, and a midnight champagne toast.
