A Traveler’s Guide to the All-new MoMA in New York City

The MoMA stands for the Museum of Modern Art. It is located in Midtown Manhattan, in the heart of New York City. Every year, the museum draws the attention of thousands of tourists and art-lovers from all corners of the world. Recently, the classic museum underwent a renovation project worth a whopping $450 million.

The renovation and reopening of the museum adds a rapid rise in the total traffic. The all-new museum space is expansive featuring a new store along with a better flow throughout. While the all-new space is interesting and modern, it could be disorienting for those who are quite familiar with the older version of the world-famous museum.

What is All New at the MoMA?

Sarah Suzuki –Director & Curator at the opening of the all-new museum, shares her insights into what all is included in the new structure of the museum after revamping.

In the past, the museum used to be crowded –even in cases of timed tickets for the famous shows. As such, the overall experience turned out suffocating instead of being a soothing one. Every year, it is estimated that around 3 million visitors come at the world-renowned museum. As per the new renovation project, an additional 47,000 square feet of exhibition space has been included to help in alleviating most traffic.

The museum is going to remain open every day. This is in comparison to other museums in New York that remain closed on Mondays. As such, the visitors can look forward to having more time and space to adore the galore of modern art & souvenirs.

The lobby of the museum has been reconstructed to feature a brighter and bigger space –even with longer admission lines. Moreover, if you happen to purchase your tickets online while picking them up at the respective kiosks, the entry will be a breeze for you.

What can You See at MoMA?

While visiting the spectacular MoMA, it is advised that you should get hold of the free audio guide. Otherwise, you can also download the MoMA app for free on your mobile device and access the same to navigate across the museum seamlessly. The guide or the mobile app offers insights into the major museum highlights, conversations with the respective artists, and in-depth details about the existing artwork. It turns out to be a handy guide as you get to access the museum with the help of the digital map.

Before you go upstairs, the curators at the museum recommend that you should spend some quality time immersing yourself in unparalleled arts of the world-famous “Echo” –an installation by Philippe Parreno. It is located on the ground floor. It is famous for its bespoke choreography that keeps getting altered by the changing algorithm. Therefore, the choreography never repeats itself.

Once you are inside, you will find a majority of tourists headed towards the classic “Starry Night” by Van Gogh on the 5th floor of the museum.
