Staten Island isn’t just home to zoos, cultural centers, and museums. It’s also home to some of the best food among the five boroughs. In this video, we’ll look at five must-try food destinations in the area.

1. Killmeyer’s

First on this list is Killmeyer’s, a German restaurant serving beers, sausages, and pancakes that originated with Prussian immigrant Nicholas Killmeyer.

It operates on a building rumored to have been open since the 1700s. Must-tries in their menu are their German wurst samplers and Wienerschnitzel. The rich history and rich food is the main reason to head to Killmeyer’s

2. Denino’s Pizzeria

If pizza is what you’re looking for, Denino’s is an institution. It opened back in 1937 as a tavern but first introduced its pizza in 1951 when it was added to complement its beer. Since then, Denino’s has transitioned to a pizzeria while still retaining the same Italian family recipes.

3. Royal Crown Bakery

Frequented by both tourists and locals, Royal Crown Bakery serves great food at a fairly affordable rate. They have the usual traditional home-cooked Italian sandwiches, pizzas, and pieces of bread, but they also have made-to-order cakes that are equally as satisfying.

Overall, Royal Crown Bakery isn’t luxurious or world-famous, but for Staten Island, it’s definitely a must-try.

4. Alba

Alba, an Albanian joint in Hylan Boulevard, is home to great unique dishes. Must-tries for Alba include their classic kebab served with their traditional roasted red pepper sauce called an Ajvar.

They also have a few drinks like their espresso and their Uludağ, or Turkish Mineral water.

5. Lobster House Joe’s

Last but not least on this list is a seafood paradise that’s fitting for an Island like Staten’s. They have two locations, and they serve a plethora of seafood.

They serve everything: From clams, calamari, shrimp, and mussels, and even their oysters that are served on Thursday specials for only a dollar.
