The Oscars have been one of the most awaited moments for filmmakers and fans worldwide.

For this video, we’ll be taking a look at the nominees and, of course, the winners of the 2023 Academy Awards.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

Everything Everywhere All at Once took home most of the bacon, winning Best picture and competing with the likes of Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Sheinert won best director for the film, Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis also bagged supporting role awards.

The production team of Everything Everywhere All at Once also won big, claiming best Original screenplay and best Film editing despite only having a team of 5 self-learned editors. Of course, it would be a travesty to leave out Michelle Yeoh’s historic Best Actress win as the first Asian Best Actress Winner in the academy.

The Whale

The Whale gives Brendan Fraser his first great opportunity in a while to show that he’s still got the acting chops. The movie, which explores the story of a lonely, devastated recluse desperate to rekindle his relationship with his daughter portrayed by Brendan Fraser, gives him his first Oscar win as Best Actor.

The 2022 movie also bagged the best Makeup and hairstyling award thanks to Fraser’s unbelievable transformation.

All Quiet on the Western Front

All Quiet on the Western Front is this year’s favorite foreign film. The war film was able to bag the following awards: Best International film, Best Original Score, Best Cinematography, and Best Production Design.

Top Gun: Maverick

Top Gun: Maverick was one of the most well-loved movies to have come out last year and they arguably ended up with a film even more loved than the first.

Although it fell short on Film Editing and Visual Effects, it did manage to bag Best Sound, an often underappreciated but important aspect of a film.

Other Notable Winners

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio won Best Animated Feature over Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which was a surprise to some. Women Talking won Best Adapted Screenplay. Avatar: The Way of Water won Best Visual Effects. RRR’s Naatu Naatu won Best Original Song. Navalny won Best Documentary Feature, The Elephant Whisperers won Best Documentary short subject, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever won Best Costume Design, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse won Best Animated Short, and An Irish Goodbye won Best Live Action Short.
