With Barbie being one of the most-awaited films this year, the hype surrounding it has many facets. Whether they’re Barbie fans, Greta Gerwig fans, Margot Robbie fans, or all of the above, we know a lot of fans are itching to see it as soon as they can.

Luckily for you, this video is a spoiler-free movie review that may help you decide whether it’s worth watching or not.

The Plot

Don’t let the log line fool you. Although the movie indeed revolves around Barbie and Ken discovering the joys and perils of living among humans, there’s so much more to it.

Barbie, at its core is a multi-faceted, highly self-aware movie made by the perfect director for the job. It’s a highly subversive movie that isn’t afraid to dig at several figures, like the idea of the toy and its creator.

The Acting

Barbie is a star-studded movie, and every actor has brought their A-game to the screens. Aside from the main character duo of Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, Michael Cera, Issa Rae, and even Emma Mackey, who everyone claims looks just like Margot Robbie all play their roles perfectly in this movie.

Margot Robbie is able to pull off Barbie as well as anybody would have imagined. Ryan Gosling isn’t someone you’d expect to be cast for the role of Ken, but he’s also able to pull it off really well, especially given Ken’s role in the movie.

Is It For Kids?

While it may be a PG-13 movie, and everything about a Barbie movie screams child-friendly, the live-action isn’t a movie that you’d exactly want to take your children to on a Friday night to see. Aside from the fact that the cinemas will probably be flooded by people trying to watch Barbie and the Christopher Nolan-directed Oppenheimer, there are plenty of aspects in this movie that will require guidance and explanation for kids.

The mature themes, humor, and overall writing make for a movie that’s perfect for adults and teenagers who can truly grasp the movie’s aim. However, it’s still perfectly fine if you still want to take your kids to watch it.

The Overall Feel

Overall, Barbie is a wonderful movie that most people can enjoy. In contrast to how shallow and superficial Barbie is often seen, layers upon layers of thoughts and efforts have gone to this film.

Greta Gerwig has another great movie in her books. If you haven’t seen it yet, trust us when we say you should.
