As an annual tradition, Thanksgiving can be plain and dry if you do the same thing repeatedly. To spice up your Thanksgiving, we’re listing down five things you can do this year in New York City.

1. Volunteering

Sometimes, the most fulfilling thing we can do is to do something for others. There are plenty of ways to volunteer for Thanksgiving.

You can help prepare meals for the homeless, pass out turkeys, or even deliver food to homes all around New York City.

The Bowery Mission has been the longest-running Thanksgiving meal celebration in New York City. They start out with breakfast and serve Thanksgiving meals from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

2. Visit Central Park

Sometimes, what we need during the holidays is just peace away from all of the chaos. Central Park during Thanksgiving is filled with beautifully coloured trees and foliage as they change colors.

At the same time, there are also lots of events that happen throughout the season, and some of them happen to fall on Thanksgiving day.

3. Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is an annual tradition that has been going on for almost a hundred years already.

Whether it’s going to be the highlight of your Thanksgiving or just a side trip before dinner, it’s certainly going to be fun. Enjoy the various floats and performances, and possibly even catch a glimpse of some celebrities that may be attending or performing.

The 97th Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade will be held on November 23, 2023.

4. Thanksgiving Cruise meal

A Thanksgiving meal on a cruise is one way to spice things up. Keeping the same tradition of dining with your friends or family during Thanksgiving but adding a twist is a cool way to enjoy Thanksgiving even more.

There are several cruise options, but the New York Bateaux Thanksgiving Day Premiere Lunch Cruise is one of the most coveted.

5. Turkey Trot

A Turkey Trot is a race held often as a charity for locals in the area. It’s a community race that caters to all runners or walkers of all ages.

Each turkey trot is unique and has its own thing going on, but some of them usually involve people wearing costumes to make the race more entertaining.

A turkey trot is a great way to bond with the community, raise charity money, and burn some calories while munching on Thanksgiving meals.
