Adapted from arguably the greatest Manga and Anime of all time, the One Piece Live Action series has humongous shoes to fill.

After the first trailer dropped, confirming the series’ existence, avid One Piece fans have spotted numerous things. For this video, we’ll be breaking down as well as talking about some of the easter eggs in the trailer.

The Story

Like most live-action adaptations, the thing the fans care about the most is whether or not the series stays true to the story in the original.

The 1st season of Netflix’s One Piece seems to be exploring the East Blue Saga. We’re unsure to what extent the changes are made, but it’s likely that the pacing and possibly even the chronological order will change.

From what we can tell, there aren’t that much significant changes we can spot in the trailer, but we can’t say for sure yet.

The Cast

Crucial to any live-action adaptation, the cast for Netflix’s One Piece seems actually well-thought-of. Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy seems to be a great choice, Jacob Romero Gibbs as Usopp and Taz Skylar as Sanji is decent, Emily Rudd, who plays Nami, is actually a really big anime fan, and Mackenyu Arata as Zoro, is the fan favorite.

However, it’s important to note that they may only seem off to some because that’s something unavoidable when we see live-action portrayals of 2D Characters.

The Costume

One of the things some of the more detail-oriented fans could spot was the costumes and attire worn by the cast. As opposed to the anime, where most of the cast wear generally the same thing, the live-action adaptation brings some changes.

Throughout the trailer, we see changes in the attires of the straw hat pirates. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing as their attire are still based on the attires in the manga during times that we do see Luffy and the gang change.

Going Merry’s Open Mouth

Although it’s not much, some fans have been pissed at the design of the Going Merry in the adaptation. Instead of a closed mouth and a more cartoonish design, the goat head is quite realistic and has ears and an open mouth.

Garp’s Ship

Fans may not think of it much, but Monkey D. Garp’s ship is actually a good sign for the series. Not only does it mean they actually care about the details, but they’re also planning for the long term as opposed to a single-season series.

Monkey D. Garp is an iconic member of the Marines, but he also plays a role that spans the thousandth episode of the anime.

What do you think of Netflix’s One Piece? Will it be one of the good ones or another reminder of why we shouldn’t make live-action adaptations of anime and mangas? Comment down below to let us know.
