We also hear stories about going from rags to riches, but some people experience the opposite.

In this video, we’ll be taking a look at 5 celebrities who lost everything.

1. Gary Busey

He’s had considerable success throughout his career thanks to his unique demeanor, looks, and acting chops. However, due to a motorcycle accident that caused permanent brain damage, his career died down, and he struggled to get cast.

Eventually, more money was going out than going in, and he had to file for bankruptcy in 2012.

2. Toni Braxton

If the name isn’t familiar, the song “Un-Break My Heart” can ring a bell.

She sold more than 70 million records worldwide but has found a way to go bankrupt twice. The main reason for the bankruptcy was that while she was selling millions of albums, she barely earned anything from it due to clauses in her contract.

3. MC Hammer

MC Hammer is another musician who lost everything. With the iconic “U Can’t Touch This” song filling up his bank accounts, he had $30 million at one time.

His luxurious lifestyle, which involved buying a $1 million mansion, filling up his home with 200 people, and buying a horse stable alongside 19 racehorses sent him deep into debt.

4. Mark Twain

Mark Twain is one of the most notable writers of all time. He had a poor childhood due to his dad dying when he was 11, and he worked his way into success through his writing.

He published several classics, with “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” being the most successful. His publishing house ultimately went bankrupt before he could even reach significant wealth.

He got depressed because of the bankruptcy but still managed to write well enough and go on speaking tours, which helped him become financially secure. We thought that would be the end of the story, but he lost $30,000 to a protein powder investment, which was already a lot at the time.

5. Burt Reynolds

While most young people won’t be able to recognize this name, Burt Reynolds was a household name in the late 70’s and early 80’s.

He made quite a few bucks and married Loni Anderson but made many poor decisions on the way. He eventually got divorced, made bad investment decisions, and filed for bankruptcy in 1996.

Despite a slight comeback thanks to “Boogie Nights” in 1997, he still couldn’t recover. He was eventually forced to sell his house, but luckily, his neighbor bought it and still allowed him to live on the property until he died in 2018.
