There’s nothing like a hot chicken noodle soup to warm yourself up. As a comfort food for many, it’s no surprise that a place like New York has abundant spots serving various versions of this dish.

For this video, we’ll try to narrow down that list to 5 chicken noodle soup spots you have to try out.

1. Loukoumi Astoria

We have a not-so-common chicken noodle soup for the first spot on this list. Loukoumi serves Greek avgolemono, a chicken noodle soup with egg and lemon combined to add a deeper flavor to the broth.

Making an avgelomono is no easy work, as you have to first master the art of incorporating eggs and lemon into the broth without curdling. The end-goal of this skill results in a rich, velvety soup.

2. Ivan Rame

We can’t have a list of soups if we don’t include at least one ramen in it. Ivan Ramen’s famous chicken paitan is the entry for this list. The peppery ground chicken and crunchy bits of fried skin take the soup to a new level.

From the obviously flavorful broth, the chives added for flavor, the freshly made noodles, thin noodles, and the egg yolk added on top for extra creaminess, there’s no question why this deserves to be on this list

3. Cơm Tấm Ninh Kiều

Contrary to how complex the name of this pho ga spot in the Bronx, the chicken noodle soup they serve is a simple, hearty soup served with chicken, flat rice noodles, and chives cut longer than usual.

But don’t let its looks fool you. This bowl of soup is cooked with care, love, and dedication and it shows in the broth. Every sip is full of flavor but it isn’t overwhelming at all.

4. Malay

Taking a break from the simple clear soups, the chicken coconut curry from Malay restaurant is another must-try. Its soup has hints of yellow and bright orange, thanks to turmeric and red chili oil. It has chunks of chicken, and a generous serving of noodles similar to a ramen. To top everything off, blocks of fried tofu are added if the carbs aren’t enough for you yet.

Malay has been around since 1988 and hasn’t changed much since it began serving its hearty dishes and soups.

5. Raku

Udon has always been one of the heartiest noodles to serve in a soup and Raku takes advantage of this. They serve some of the bounciest udon in the city alongside chunks of chicken in a savory broth you definitely won’t have enough of.
