Botanical gardens are fun because aside from the fact that they feature plant life in varied forms, they also offer various activities like concerts, restaurants, and even classes occasionally.

However, more than that, Botanical Gardens serve a different purpose as they devote their resources to plant conservation.

In this video, we’ll look at 5 Botanical Gardens You Have to Visit in New York City.

1. The New York Botanical Garden

The New York Botanical Garden has over a million different types of plants all over its 250-acre area.

As the largest Botanical Garden in New York, it features plenty of different-themed natural settings like the Azalea Garden, Rockefeller Rose Garden, and the Perennial and Herb Gardens.

2. Brookyln Botanic Garden

Also located in Brooklyn, right inside Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is 52 acres of beautiful greens and nature.

Their highlight is the Zen Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden with some of the prettiest cherry blossoms. The Shakespeare Garden, with more than 80 kinds of plants found in Shakespeare’s works, is also a unique visit.

3. Snug Harbor Botanical Garden

Snug Harbor’s Botanical Garden is a result of two organizations, the Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden, merging in 2008.

Since 2008, the garden wasn’t just filled with some of the most beautiful and attractive plants in the world but also with decades and even centuries of history. One of their attractions, the New York Chinese Scholar Garden is one of two authentic classical outdoor Chinese gardens in the U.S.

4. Narrows Botanical Garden

As the only volunteer-run garden on this list, the Narrows Botanical Garden may also be the smallest botanical garden on this list, but it definitely is still one of the best to visit.

The space and size are actually convenient as they make it easier to visit several of their attractions, such as the Lily Pond, Native Plant Sanctuary, and the Old and Modern Rose Gardens.

5. Queens Botanical Garden

Last but definitely not the least is the botanical garden in Queens. After its humble beginnings as the Gardens on Parade in the 1939 New York World’s Fair, Queens Botanical Garden has expanded to cater to more plants and people.

The 39-acre garden is filled with plants from all over the world, but some of their more interesting attractions are the fragrance walk, herb garden, and children’s garden, which is perfect for your kids.
